Sometimes we need to share information to help protect children, young people and vulnerable adults from abuse or neglect. This is known as safeguarding.
What information may be shared
We may share relevant information from your health record where there is a concern about your safety or the safety of another person.
Who we may share information with
We may share information with organisations involved in safeguarding, including:
- Children's Social Care
- Adult Social Care
- The Police
- NHS organisations
- Local Authority safeguarding teams
- Other health and care professionals involved in your care
Do we need your consent?
Where appropriate, we will seek your consent before sharing information.
However, if we believe that a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of significant harm, or where we are required by law, we may share information without consent.
Legal basis
Our lawful basis for processing is:
- UK GDPR Article 6(1)(c) - Legal obligation
- UK GDPR Article 6(1)(e) - Public task
- UK GDPR Article 9(2)(b), 9(2)(g) and 9(2)(h) where applicable
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Request access to your personal information.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Complain if you are unhappy with how your information has been used.
There may be circumstances where safeguarding information cannot be disclosed if this would place someone at risk or prejudice an investigation.
